Pageant Wrap-up
by Chris Benson, coordinator
The 2007 ISFA Scholarship Pageant is now
stored away in our memory book.
After months of planning, the pageant was held on Saturday, Nov. 3,
at the Adam’s
Mark
Hotel
in
Indianapolis
.
Sixteen contestants from all over the state competed for the
opportunity
to represent the ISFA in 2008.
The contestants started out their day with
rehearsal. They had two hours to learn an opening dance number and
two hours for on-stage practice. In the afternoon, they each had a
seven- minute interview with three judges.
During the pageant each contestant was
judged in three categories, festival spirit, evening gown and an
on-stage question.
There are so many people that make the
pageant a memorable time for the contestants. Sports Unlimited from
Wabash donated T-shirts for the opening dance number and Love Bug
Floral, also of
Wabash, donated the queen and court flowers. Robert Plunkett from
Wabash
came and took a video of the pageant so that contestants can have a
lasting memory. The contestants get a special treat from Snips
of Historic Irvington in
Indianapolis
. They brought eight employees from their salon and they did the
girls’ hair and makeup.
Helping with the pageant were committee
members Cheryl Hamilton and Bev and Jon Vanderpool. Debbie Dunbar
worked in the dressing room making sure the girls were all zipped up
and ready to go on time.
Working hard right to the end were Brenda
Alexander and her husband Jeff as they tallied the scores. The
judges did not have an easy job, but in the end they chose a
wonderful young woman to represent the
Indiana State Festivals Association
in 2008.
As director of the pageant, I would like to
thank all of those who volunteered their time and talent,
Glennas Kueck
and Nancy Aldredge for taking care of the contestants during meal
time,
Toni Meyer
, ISFA President, and the
Indiana State Festivals Association
for the scholarship money that they provide for the winners.
Christy
Penner was the outgoing 2007 ISFA
Queen; we would like to thank her for her time and
representing ISFA throughout the year. We wish Christy good
luck in her upcoming endeavors in school and beyond.
