The Vigo County Park and Recreation Department will be celebrating its 38th annual Fowler Park Pioneer Days on Saturday and Sunday, October 2nd and 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to step back in time and enjoy a simpler way of life.
Pioneer Village, located within Fowler Park, features 16 log cabins, a log barn, smokehouse, blacksmith shop, a covered bridge, and a gristmill.
Approximately 150 Pioneer Village Folk and volunteers will recreate the 1840’s by demonstrating the same routine tasks and activities of our ancestors, using the same methods and tools. Questions are always welcome; the weekend is designed as a learning experience. Hands-on activities will be scattered throughout Pioneer Village to encourage visitor participation.
Old-fashioned crafters, located on the south side of the village, demonstrate their talents and their crafts will be available for purchase. This year’s crafts will include hand-woven rugs, jewelry, wooden toys, clothing, baskets, furniture, and much more. Food vendors, featuring some home-made classics, will be located on the south side of the covered bridge by the shelter. Drinks, meals, and desserts will be available for purchase. The Traders Market, located in the field behind the shelter, will have a variety of hand-crafted items and locally grown orchard and farm products available for purchase. Local artists can be seen throughout Pioneer Village drawing, painting, and selling their artwork.
Sunday church service will be held in the log church within Pioneer Village on Sunday, October 3rd at 9:00 a.m.
Parking is $2.00 for each full day. Fowler Park is located south of Terre Haute east of U.S. 41. Directional signage is located on U.S. 41.
