The purity of the landscapes, the seasons freely coming and going, the

Orange County Convention &
Visitors Bureau
PO Box 150
French Lick, IN 47432
Year-round recreation, historical wonders and intrigue bring out the true
colors of this remarkable travel destination in the scenic hills of Southern
Indiana. This tranquil community is also famous for its spectacular
architecture, rural scenery, mineral springs, and outdoor sports.
While in French Lick and West Baden, visitors can enjoy historical tours of
the West Baden Springs National Historic Landmark, once considered the
“Eighth Wonder of the World,” and the French Lick Springs Resort and Spa,
full service hotel located on 2,600 acres. After touring these magnificent
attractions, relax on a train ride through a 2,200-foot tunnel in the heart
of the Hoosier National Forest at the Indiana Railway Museum. When the train
returns, make plans to dine at the elegant Beechwood Inn, the former mansion
home of a local casino and circus mogul. Top off the day by tasting a
locally produced wine at the French Lick Winery and Coffee Company. In
Paoli, the county seat, visitors can marvel at the Greek Revival Orange
County Courthouse, built in 1850 and the centerpiece of the Paoli downtown
square. For the more adventurous tourist, there is Paoli Peaks, with 15
slopes of machine-groomed snow for skiers and snowboarders. Nestled between
Paoli and French Lick is the 1,100-acre Wilstem Guest Ranch, a working
cattle and horse ranch. Orleans, the first-established town in the
county, is known as the “Dogwood Capital of Indiana” and its beauty in early
May is unmatched in the state. The revitalized historic Congress Square in
downtown is the perfect place to appreciate the town’s charm. The “rise” of
the mysterious underground Lost River is located in nearby Orangeville.
Fabulous Patoka Lake, in the southwest portion of the county, offers outdoor
enthusiasts a wealth of opportunities to boat, bicycle, hike, hunt, or fish
at the 8,800-acre reservoir. Houseboats and fishing boats are available for
rent at Patoka Lake Marina and supplies for both can be purchased right on
the water at its convenience store.
From dogwood blossoms in the spring, to summer water sports, to fabulous
fall foliage, to snow skiing…Orange County is a place for all seasons.
